This is a short article on ebay website trading explaining how you can benefit from selling public domain stuff.

Did you know that you can legally "steal" someone else's work and sell it? You can re-package it any way you'd like and sell it - without needing ANY permission from anyone! You could burn it to CD, make an eBook, print it out and put a cover on it, record it as an MP3...the sky is the limit.

Selling public domain stuff legally is available for anyone. It means the copyright has expired and anyone can sell or give it away. In this case the product is old movies and film clips.

I’ve compiled a selection of those ideas I really do think have huge potential for new and experienced eBay sellers.

Give these ideas a try:

Target a different customer base from that featured in the idea. So, for example, the first idea you’ll listed below, about selling baby equipment and toys located at Mother and Toddler’s Groups, could be targeted instead at gardeners’ allotment groups (plants and garden ornaments), neighbours (unwanted household and personal goods), and so on.

Target a different eBay country site. ‘Free Stuff to Sell’, mentioned later, could involve collecting free guides and maps for places in the UK which have similar place names in the USA and would interest buyers on eBay.com. For starters try Washington, York, Norfolk, Birmingham, Dover, and many more. I keyed ‘places + with + same + names + in + uk + and + america’ into Google this morning and found hundreds of sites containing all the information you need to copy this idea.

So here we go with ideas for you to emulate (not copy):

CHILDREN’S CAST OFFS. Children grow quickly and discarded toys, clothing and hardware are sometimes in near perfect condition and worth up to fifty per cent their original value. Most parents are too tired, too busy, lack time and commitment to turn their discarded kiddieware into cash. But most will pay someone else to sell it for them. Talk to the leader, make the offer, get that person to handle all communications with fellow members and also distribute money to members after the sale. This saves time and hassle for you and members are more likely to trust their leader with goods and money than an unknown agent. Have an agreement drawn up with the leader who must accept responsibility for collecting and holding all goods and all monies which absolves you from any wrongdoing that might ensue. With the exception of all but very small items it’s best to sell locally on eBay and have buyers pick up and pay for items while the group is in session. Either be there personally to claim the cash and pay the group leader once your commission is deducted or get the leader to hand over goods and take payment and you call every few days for your cut.

FACTORY OUTLETS: Most factory outlets deal in perfect and slightly imperfect goods and there are eBayers making thousands of sales every week of items picked up inexpensively at factory outlets. I personally know some who act as trading assistants for numerous factory outlets. Those people buy just one item to illustrate, describe and test resale potential and profits. From there most factory outlet managers are happy to put similar stock to one side for future sales. You’re spoiled for choice of products to sell from manufacturers of thousands of different product types, from clothing to tableware, cosmetics to socks, cutlery to most things you care to imagine. You must choose items with potential for unlimited sales via one standard listing template that does not require extensive changes between listings. Be careful picking goods and look for slight seconds as opposed to seriously flawed items. Faults vary and you’ll have difficulty using the same listing template for items ranging from slightly to seriously flawed. Look for near perfect items or perfect overstocks and you can use the same description for all similar items with specific add-ons like: ‘perfect overstock’, ‘cancelled order’, ‘button missing’, ‘light stain easily cleaned’, ‘broken zip’, ‘light chip on spout’, ‘cooking instructions missing’, etc.

FREE STUFF TO SELL: Just because it’s free doesn’t mean an item is worthless, especially on eBay, where really weird and commonplace free items can attract incredible prices. Newspapers and magazines published in one country and not available elsewhere is an obvious example, but FREE gifts given with publications are also potentially very profitable domestically and in overseas markets. Things that sell well include discount vouchers and money off tokens, bonus CDs and wallcharts and other items from newspapers and magazines, maps and travel guides from visitor centres and tourist attractions. Money Off vouchers sell particularly well on eBay, mainly cut from newspapers and magazines and product packaging. For example, just recently: £50 worth of coupons and vouchers for various foods and household cleaning items fetched £22, £48 Of Eukanuba (Pet Food) Money Off Coupons made £20, £20 worth of Pampers Nappies Money Off Vouchers went for £13.00.

Most of what I spotted on eBay were clipped from magazines and newspapers with the majority fetching around half their full discount value. That suggests you could even buy newspapers and magazines specifically for their vouchers, free gifts and other potentially resaleable items. A friend who did this, very effectively, was an avid competition enthusiast who gave up a full time job as a teacher to enter competitions that won her many thousands of pounds each year in cash and consumables. In your comment include subtle references to your website. Be cautious not to abuse the system, but this is a great way to get exposure for your domain name. Some of the videos on YouTube.com are viewed tens of thousands of times and your link will get a ton of exposure this way. Do it once and enjoy the benefits for months or years.

IDEA FOUR: What one person did was to put images in his auctions that LOOK like a video clip with a play button in the lower left hand corner. Auction visitors will frequently click the "play"button on what appears to be a video, but what they are really clicking on is a "watch this item" link. Getting all those "watchers" helps to propel many of his items onto the "eBay pulse" (what's hot) page where THOUSANDS of additional shoppers see his listing. Genius!

IDEA FIVE: Affiliate marketing is very popular, but many people make a basic mistake that costs them hundreds or even thousands. The best way I've found to mask links is to buy an inexpensive domain name from godaddy.com or any other cheap domain provider. You can then use domain forwarding to point your new domain name at your affiliate link. You can get hundreds of affiliate links free from places like Commission Junction or ClickBank.

And once you have your "pretty" affiliate link you need to get traffic in order to make affiliate commissions. One great way to get traffic is your eBay auctions! You can't insert your affiliate link DIRECTLY into your auctions, but one of my favorite is to set up an email address through godaddy.com and make that the email address that you use in your auctions!

For example, if I mention the email address Carlos@ToysInspector.com in my eBay auctions I'm going to get focused traffic to my ToysInspector.com site from curious shoppers interested in Toys! I can also take it a step further and set up an email autoresponder that replies to everyone who sends an email to Carlos@ToysInspector.com with an automated answer.

Have you heard of Craigslist? It's a place where you can target a local audience with a classified ad. You can try to sell a product or a service. Craigslist has been called the new eBay but it really goes beyond what eBay does.

There are a lot of Internet Marketers who have made a lot of money off of Craigslist. There are many ways you can do it. But before you actually start making money you need to first get started on the site.

The actual address of Craigslist is Craigslist.org. You go there and then you complete the posting form and submit the posting. You'll get an e-mail that has a link to another form that you need to fill-out. With this form you'll be able to make changes and then submit the posting yourself. Your posting should show-up in Craigslist within 15 minutes or so.

It's important that you keep the e-mail they sent you so that you have the link you need to get back into your posting should you need to make any other changes. You can also delete your post using that link. However, if you happen to lose the link then you can request to have another link sent to you. This is an interesting clone of the ever popular Hot Wheels Cars. You can see that it is almost identical in colour and packaging. The product brand is "HighGames" and Made in China. The unsuspecting buyer will surely pass this for the real thing. There is even a warning safety instruction behind the pack indicating this is unsuitable for children under age of 3. Not seen any of these selling in ebay though cos it's not easy to fool the many smart buyers there.

Viewing a sellers feedback can only give you a portion of the sales made, but here's how you can see everything that did and didn't sell for any given seller on eBay:

o first, click the "advanced search" button next to the search button on eBay
o next, click on the "items by seller" button
o fill in the sellers name and check the box that says "show completed listings"

Go to www.thomasnet.com. This is the home of The Thomas Register, the largest data base of manufacturers in the US and Canada. You will see category listings on the home page --just select one and start entering products you are looking for into the search box. Hint --you will find most of the products you are interested in, in the "Other" category. Although it is free --frankly it is a lot of work. The small fee WorldWide Brands charges to do all of this work for is well worth it.

There are three good opportunities or ebay niche marketplace for small sellers today:

New products - The single best opportunity on eBay today is to work in a narrow niche market with some type of specialty product. The more you specialize the less competition you will have and the easier time people will have finding your listings.
Your own products - this has always been a good area for eBay sellers as long as you can create a product someone wants. This can be anything from handcrafted jewelry, your own photographs, music or artwork to handcrafted gourmet food items.
Used Products - The sale of all types of used goods on eBay is huge. It can be almost anything that is allowed to sell on the site from cars to clothing and anything in between. This includes all types of collectibles, antiques, vintage items and just used stuff. I sell used books on eBay and have recently sold used, small appliances, a motorcycle, building materials, jewelry and some great 1970s vintage Nikon camera equipment.

If you can find the wholesale source for the latest Apple iPhone or Xbox-360 player and you can buy them in sufficient quantity then good luck to you. You'll need it because there are so many sellers selling those items that the profit margins are tiny.

But when it comes to eBay, my money is on those small niche markets and finding those vintage items where I can make a 200% to 500% markup. Yes they take a little more work to find, but when you do the profit potential is much higher and the risk much less.

(2) Print them out and put them in 3 ring binders to create manuals (high perceived value).

Did you know that you can easily add "annotations" to youtube.com videos ? Annotations are notes that pop up while the video is playing. A great way to use these annotations is to mention your website or opt-in list.

eBay also allows you to link from your auction listing to a youtube video that describes your item. Use annotations to mention your site in the video. This is a great way to drive some traffic!

Ebay Classifieds Ad Listing

The eBay listing tool will only present you with the option of using classified ads as your listing choice if you select an eligible selling category where eBay allows classified ads. There are only two simple steps into it.

First - find the categories that allow ebay classifieds ads.
Second - find the hidden tab that turns them on.

Let's go into more detail. To see what eBay categories accept classified ads:

STEP 1: From the eBay.com homepage:-click on "advanced search" (top of screen) leaving all fields blank-click on "search" leaving all fields blank-under the "format" drop down box select "classified ads" and click the "show" button out to the far righthand side of the drop down boxes. You'll see a bunch of eBay categories with zero listings, but scroll way down. You'll see some categories with hundreds of listings. The listings with zeros aren't eligible for classified ads. The rest are eligible. This will also get you an idea of how few people are using ebay classifieds ads ! Take note of the "eligible" category you'll be using to list your item before moving to step 2.

STEP 2: Set up an ad in one of the approved categories: -from the eBay.com home page click on "sell" and insert your item title description -proceed to the page where you select your category -select a category that allows classified ads (from step 1) -Once you proceed to the page titled "Sell: Create Your Listing" scroll down to the section titled "How you're selling". At the top of that section you should see FOUR tabs. One of them is "classified ad". Assuming you've chosen a category that allows classified ads from step 1 above. Being a collector of business envelope with stamps, I checked out Ebay auctions and buys and deals on used mint-state envelope with stamps. Philatelists have collected stamps since long before postal workers were disgruntled. An excess of stamps may be bad news to a country's postal service, but good news to those who collect the excess stamps.

Before their use became common it was standard to fold the sheet of paper a letter was written on in a way making it suitable for posting. In England it was not until 1840 that the cost of posting a letter was based on it's weight rather than the number of sheets or distance to be sent. The minimum rate was one penny for a letter not weighing more than one half-ounce. An envelope allowed more than a single sheet to be sent at once.

And yes, it is possible to get a discount on postage stamps! A lot of times companies or individuals will purchase a mass quantity of stamps for a mailing and end up not using them all. The Postal Office doesn't buy back stamps, so a good alternative is to sell on eBay. Expect to pay between 80% and 90% of face value, with the bigger discount coming from a larger purchase quantity.
